Currently, going electric does make the most sense when you use that government incentive to install Level 2 (240 V) charging at home. You cannot plug an EV into a Level 1 (110V) socket and expect to only charge at home. If you want the job done right, and done once, Trust Adrian and Urbanite Electrical Services. I can vouch for his integrity and knowledge to provide a system that will be safe, and reliable.Urbanite installed my charger in Charlottetown 4 months ago. I can plug in every 7-10 days if I wanted to drive between 10%-80%. Given I could charge at home for 17c/ kWh, I plug in every day and set my battery max charge to 50% during the week. When the car is plugged into the house, a schedule automatically preconditions the cabin and battery to be nice and toasty for the kids on chilly mornings. My car will do about 300km round trip in the winters, and over 400km around town in the summer. Most of my daily trips are less than 50km. The small bump on the power bill to completely erase my gas bill has been working out fabulously. Some people will need more range than I do, or road trip more frequently than I do. A regular gas hybrid is the solution for anyone not ready to make the switch. Some people may consider spending some of the incentive on buying an EV with a bigger battery.

About Adrian

After spending his early years in sales, service, and business development, Adrian entered the Electrical Construction trade at the age of 30.

Once he earned his Journeyperson and Red Seal certification in 2010, Adrian continued to diligently work at honing his craft. In 2015, in between working at his day (night shift) job and spending time with his family, Adrian studied and wrote the exam which earned him his Master Electrician certification with the Safety Codes Council.

Adrian’s continual pursuit of gaining relevant knowledge intended for him to offer more in-depth knowledge into business operations recently earned him his Blue Seal certification for Business Competencies. Since 2014, Adrian has held an active status as a National Construction Safety Officer (N.C.S.O.) through the Alberta Construction Safety Association and keeps current with Alberta Occupational Health and Safety requirements.

While working as an oil and gas electrician, Adrian felt the need to transition out of the industry. When he formed Urbanite Electrical Services in 2016, the intent was to usher himself, his peers, and anyone else who expressed interest, into the emerging renewable energy & energy efficiency economy.

Over the next few years, he developed his skills and knowledge in energy efficiency: participating in energy audits, assessing energy consumption patterns, and leading LED retrofits in various towers & commercial facilities throughout Alberta. He also began his career in the renewable industry: designing and installing solar energy systems with a not-for-profit.

Adrian has worked alongside a diverse demographic who have experienced different degrees of hardship due to economic and/or social conditions. He felt compelled to expand his efforts to include not only his peers in oil and gas but also marginalized youth and people who have been through the justice system looking for an opportunity to re-enter the workforce. From this opportunity, Adrian has also connected with various local Indigenous communities in Alberta and is incredibly grateful for what he has learned through the sharing of knowledge, traditions, and stories.

Adrian has created a 3-day Solar 101 course that takes an in-depth look into the basics of solar electricity, which is intended to give the participant an entry-level yet solid grasp of (i) electrical energy generation, (ii) the components involved and (iii) how the solar energy interacts with the existing electricity grid. His course also covers the non-electrician aspects including (iv) solar system basics, (v) Alberta and Canada-wide supply chain, and other related topics that are implicit in this well-developed global industry. He also created an additional 2-day hands-on component that tacks on the end of the 3-day course. This 2-day component is intended to allow electricians to have a more tactile experience with the electrical components, and non-electricians the opportunity to understand the mechanical components, and for all to work with industry-related software.

Adrian moved his family and his business to Prince Edward Island in 2022 with a vision to bring his electrical expertise to residents and businesses on the island. Alongside his work as a highly qualified and respected electrical contractor, Adrian continues to support marginalized youth and others through his educational programs.

In his spare time, Adrian enjoys spending time with his family, getting dirty in his garden, creating concoctions in the kitchen, and visiting extended family from coast to coast.
